I am addicted to my gel.
Without it my hair has about 14 ‘cowlicks’ that make it stick all over the
place. Some might even say my hair has a certain Muppet appearance...
So, ever since junior year of high school (when I used Rob Steinmetz as an
example for hair care), I have used some sort of gel, greasy kid stuff,
and/or product in my hair. Many who knew me in college and grad school
would know that I have the fastest head fake/bob/avoidance behavior in the
west - whenever someone would go for a touch of the coiffed do... (A trick
I learned from Chris R.)
My newscaster hair set-up became very, very important to me.
Since then, I believe I have learned to not worry about “what my hair looks
like”... To a degree.
I still own 3 different types of hair ‘product’.
This causes me to wonder how many others have some sort of product
addiction/crutch that they use in order to be “presentable”.
What is it that you can not leave the house without wearing, or doing, or
fixing, on yourself?
So, for this week, we will get back to our basics...
Au naturale is the idea.
I challenge you to see how many days this week From Monday thru Saturday you
can go without wearing any form of ‘product’.
For many of us this will be a total piece of cake. For others, it will
prove quite challenging.
That means you can rinse off in the shower, and use ordinary soap for your
body. I would suggest to get the full effect you use a non-perfume,
non-additive, clear soap. No shampoo, no conditioner. No special ‘body
wash’.
Then when you get out of the shower, no gel, no hairspray, no mousse, no
make-up, no foundation, no lipstick, no gloss, no deodorant, etc. etc. No
product whatsoever (other than the very basic soap).
How about stepping it up a notch and removing any fingernail or toenail
polish?
Also, how about wearing no jewelry?
As I said, this will be an easy HomeWork to ace for some of us... For
others, it will be an exercise in really placing importance on how you feel
on a particular day as opposed to how you look?
Going “into the office” with no lipstick or no cool guy hair product might
seem unreasonable in the modern office jungle...
But, give it a try.
